MoMA Cubicle

“David began sending me all kinds of mail beginning in the autumn of 2012. Each time something arrived I would store it carefully in my desk drawer until a small collection gathered. By December, I had over 40 assorted pieces of driftwood, envelopes full of sand, watercolour paintings, packets of seeds, thrift store paintings of flowers, and so on. Around that time a senior staff member in my department asked about this mail, explaining that any
artwork received by a museum employee should automatically become property of the museum. But, they asked, was this artwork or correspondence? And further, was it personal or professional? If personal, they suggested, perhaps I could receive it at home instead. Nevertheless, the unsolicited mail continued to arrive.” Zanna Gilbert
